Scars, Acne and Hyperpigmentation? We Got You Covered!

There is a common misconception that mineral makeup cannot cover skin imperfections, when in fact, covering these problems can be easily achieved by following a few simple steps.

Scars and Acne

Step 1

Work your concealer brush into a small amount of concealer powder to work the product deep into the brush.  Tap the excess product from your brush, and apply directly on the area you wish to conceal in a circular motion. Continue this process until you cover the area completely.

Step 2

Finish by applying your foundation. If the affected area is still visible through your foundation, simply reapply the concealer then follow with your foundation to even out the skin tone. Use a large powder or kabuki brush to remove any excess foundation that may be left behind to prevent an over-powdered look.  If the blemish can still be seen through the foundation, you may want to consider mixing one part foundation with one part concealer, and apply this mixture after completing step one. If you have Acne, remember that pure mineral makeup contains Zinc Oxide; a mineral known for it's healing properties so you can conceal while you heal!  A note regarding scars; If you are covering a scar, please note Step 2 will not conceal, but will make it appear faded and less noticeable.

Hyperpigmentation

Hyperpigmentation can be caused by many factors, such as sun exposure, menopause, aging, and medications. Many forms of hyperpigmentation are caused by an excess production of Melanin.  Melanin is a pigment responsible for producing color in the body, and results in dark brown patchy looking skin.  Although challenging, it is possible to treat this condition with skin care products that contain Retinol, Alpha Hydroxy acids, Ascorbic acid and other related ingredients. In addition, it is possible to lighten and sometimes hide the appearance of hyperpigmentation by using a series of cosmetics, and concentrating on those that contain light reflective properties.  Depending on the amount of hyperpigmentation in the skin, it may be possible to remove the appearance of these marks by applying step one and two above. If those steps alone do not give you the result you're looking for, you may apply a cream concealer or foundation to the affected area prior to step one. To avoid looking overdone, apply a small amount of either product with your fingertip or sponge directly over the spot you wish to conceal. Pat the product gently with your finger to blend.   Finish by applying your mineral foundation until you achieve an even finish.

Another way to further diminish the appearance these dark spots, is to distract attention away from it by using highlighter, Illuminator, or bronzer. For example: if the spots of concern are located just under the eye or on/above the cheekbone, you can lightly apply a highlighting or illuminating powder on top of the area of concern. Not only will it deflect attention from that area, it will leave your skin looking brighter. If the hyperpigmentation is located under the cheekbone or in the hollow of the cheek, applying a bronzer in this area will hide it nicely and provide a contour at the same time.

While the appearance of hyperpigmentation can be devastating, thank goodness there is hope with the wonderful illusion of makeup!
