I find it comical that when I first started wearing makeup, I wanted to look just a little bit older. And, now that I’m older, I want to look a lot younger.
Maybe this sounds all too familiar?
But, here’s the problem. In an effort to look younger, many of us over 40 end up making makeup mistakes that make us look older. Yikes!
Today, I’m going to share 5 makeup mistakes that make you look old.
Mistake #1- Using black liner on your lower lashes
Guilty. I think I’ve used black eyeliner because I thought it was what I was supposed to do. But what I didn’t know is our eyes easily give away our age. Using black eyeliner not only draws attention to our age, it can also look a bit harsh.
The fix: We need to create a softer focus around the eyes. We can do this beautifully by using white eyeliner on the lower water line (just above the last line.) White liner not only creates a softer look, it makes the eyes appear more open and awake.
Mistake #2- Using a traditional finishing powder
Typical finishing powders contain talc which dries out the skin and loves to settle in fine lines.
The fix: Using a mineral finishing powder instead of traditional powder covers shine beautifully without over-drying the skin and it’s silk-like consistency allows it to sit on top of our fine lines.
Mistake #3- Skipping a light reflective product
A matte finish is usually best for aging skin, but it can sometimes make the skin appear dry.
The fix: Using light reflective products like a luminizer or highlighter brings back the look of healthy, fresh, supple skin you had in your younger years.
Mistake #4- Skipping a Lip Liner
Lipstick worn without liner will eventually bleed over the natural lip line, settling into fine lines around the mouth. Enough said!
The fix: Lining your lips not only prevents lip color from spilling over, it also allows you to make your lips appear fuller when you outline the lips just above their natural line.
Mistake #5- Skipping a Moisturizer
You would think this would be a given, but, in our everyday hurriedness, it can be easy to skip this step.
The fix: As we age, our skin gradually loses its ability to retain moisture. This makes it more important than ever to replenish it.
