{Day Two} 5 Steps to Kick Problem Skin to The Curb

Acne is the most common skin disorder in the U.S.

I’m not talking about those that have an occasional breakout here and there.

And, I’m talking about those of us that live with this condition every single day.

I know what it’s like to avoid family gatherings, holiday parties and other social events because I felt like all eyes were on me, or rather, my awful skin. Sound familiar? The days of hiding are now a thing of the past.

It’s time to call a truce. You don’t have to settle for anything less than clear, radiant looking skin.

Fact: According to the American Academy of Dermatology, 85 % of Americans experience Acne at least once in their lifetime. In addition, a Gallup study shows well over 16 million suffer from Rosacea.

Even with numbers like this, those of us battling acne and problem still feel so alone. It seems no matter what we do to get our skin under control, it hangs on like a serial stalker. It can make you feel rather defeated.

But there is good news!

Although Acne and Rosacea can’t be cured (yet, that is), they can be managed. There is a solution, but it is a process, and lets be REAL. You won’t see results overnight.

Just like discipline with a toddler must be consistent, it’s also key to kicking problem skin the the curb. And we’ll be doing just that with a 5-Step plan.

STEP 1- Determine the Cause

More often than not, there is a reason our skin beaks out, and pinpointing the cause behind it can determine how we treat it. The obvious culprits would include adolescence, an allergic reaction, and even inheritance. (thanks mom!) Want to know the #1 cause? Stress

Studies over the years have proven the way we feel on the inside can have a HUGE impact the way our skin behaves on the outside. Why? Most of our nerve endings are connected to the skin that wraps around our organs, so when we’re stressed out, our skin does too! If that’s not another reason to take it easy, I don’t know what is. 

STEP 2- Create a Plan

Just as the right action plan is key to any weight loss program, the same goes for the care of your skin. Think of your skin as a canvas. A painter knows he or she could not create their masterpiece without a proper canvas. A canvas is the very foundation in which their flawless masterpiece lies.

Can you imagine spending countless hours perfectiface98ng your work while painting on a paper plate or napkin? Better yet, what kind of finish do you think the piece would have if that canvas wasn’t clean? You’ve probably guessed by now that the most important thing you can do for your problem skin is to create a skincare plan.

Not just any plan, but one that is tailored to the unique needs of your skin. This being said, with all the overwhelming product choices, how do you know what’s best for you?

STEP 3- Don’t Make This Mistake

So, you’re at the bathroom mirror, and you see it! What’s the 1st thing that comes to mind when you spot a break out? Hello! You want to cover it with makeup, right?

I think this is a natural reflex for most of us, and if this is all we do, we are making the biggest mistake we can make for our skin! Sure, covering it up may hide it, but it’s still there. You see, when you just cover your acne, it’s like a band-aid. A band-aid by itself doesn’t help our skin heal, right?

Think about this. When we get a cut, we need to keep it clean every day, and not only that, we usually put some kind of antibiotic cream on it. If we don’t, it could get infected, and who wants that? 

Bottom line here is that we need to care for our skin just like we care for our “boo boos”.  Keep it clean, skip the facial scrub until it heals and if you must cover it, consider mineral makeup.
