Simple Vacation Makeup

vacation makeup

I love the summertime. With snow on the ground now, I know it will eventually get here.

My hubby and I live in a quiet, small town north of the city. It’s what you could call the “sticks”. We enjoy peaceful living most of the year, but come mid-May, the once empty lake homes become full, and the only traffic jam around here can be found on the lake.

It’s one of the reasons I choose to vacation in the winter or early spring.

Vacation is vacation, no matter when you choose to do it, right? It’s the time of year to reflect, relax, and recharge, and when you realize less really is more.

Makeup is the last thing I want to think about during vacation, and while I do wear it, I prefer to keep it super-simple, because wearing a full face of makeup is a lot of work, and work is something I promised to leave at the office.

And as I prepare for this year’s getaway in a couple of weeks, I’m making a list of what I really NEED right now, and thought I’d share it with you need a little help in what to pack.

Simple Vacation Makeup. What Do Your Really Need?

When I think about which of my hundreds of products to pack, (it’s not really 100, but it could be pretty close), I ask myself what I really need, and then throw in a little extra for a special occasion.

This year, here’s what’s in my holiday makeup bag:

  • BB Cream  – This product is a must for me because it accomplishes 2 things; It evens out my ruddy skintone, and protects my skin with spf, saving me from having to apply a separate sunscreen.
  • Bronzer in Tahitian Bronze – I try to avoid the sun as much as possible, but a little bit of color on the cheeks, forehead and chin makes a great looking (and safe) tan.
  • Blush in Cozy – Sometimes I like a little pop of color with my bronzer. I love this shade because it is a bronzy mauve, and I can wear it as shadow too!
  • Eye Shadow – If I’m going out to dinner and want a little “pop” to my eyes, I bring a neutral shade with a bit of shimmer. My latest obsession is Romance.
  • Mascara – Because my bronzer and BB Cream can make my lashes look like they’ve completely disappeared, 1 coat brings my eyes back to life.
  • Lip Balm – Dry, cracked lips are no vacation. Plus, a great lip balm takes 10 years off your age? Yes, really.

You’re Over 40. Should You Stop Wearing Mineral Makeup?

Olive TreeYou’ve been wearing mineral makeup for years, but now you’re over 40, and wonder if it’s still the best choice for you and your skin.

It is. Here’s why.

Those that say you need to steer away from powder as you age are talking about traditional cosmetic powder, not mineral powder. And although they may look the same, they couldn’t be any more different!

Traditional makeup powders that contain talc and cornstarch are heavy, and love to park in fine lines. And it’s chalk-like feel and finish makes you look years older. 100% mineral powder however weighs much less, and has a silk-like consistency which allows it to lay on top of fine lines instead of settling into them.

Bu,t as great as mineral makeup is, now that you’re over 40, you may find using a basic mineral makeup leaves your skin looking and feeling drier than it used to. That’s because as we age, our skin begins to loose its ability to retain moisture, which means we need to take extra measures to make sure our skin is properly moisture balanced.

So, now what?

It’s time to consider making the switch to a formula like KmS Select Botanical, which was created to “lock in” moisture while botanical extracts nourish the skin, giving it a more youthful appearance.

But nourishing botanicals like Pomegranate and Olive Leaf, aren’t the only reason Select is a better choice for those of us over 40. Select also protects your skin from the damage of free radicals while boosting the skin’s cell production, resulting in a more youthful looking you!

I don’t know about you, but, I’ll take it!

If you’re a mineral makeup wearer over 40, I’d love to know what changes (if any) you made to your skin care and makeup routine? Share your story in the comments below.

2 Ways To Get Radiant Looking Skin In the Fall

healthy radiant skin

Fall is such a beautiful time of year! For most of us, it means bright colored leaves, apple cider and comfy sweaters!

But, there’s a drawback to the Autumn season. Our skin becomes dry and dull. And, this doesn’t happen because it’s so much cooler outside, it happens because we turn the heat on inside, and as cozy as it may feel, it also dehydrates our skin.

The good news is, you don’t have to settle for less than radiant looking skin no matter the weather! And,  today, we’re going to talk about 2 ways  to get radiant looking skin in the Fall.

Exfoliate

Our skin’s job every 3 days is to create new skin cells. Our job is to get rid of the old ones so new skin can show through. This is done when we use a facial scrub or microderm abrasion treatment 2 to 3 times a week.

Why is exfoliation so important? If you don’t exfoliate regularly, it’s impossible for your moisturizer to make it’s way through the dead skin to the new which is both a waste of 2 things we find rare these days; time and money.

So, when do you fit this into your routine? We recommend doing it in the evening. Because exfoliating can be abrasive, it leaves new skin  sensitive. Let it rest when you do.

Switch Up Your Products

As the seasons change, so do  the needs of our skin. This sometimes means the products that worked for you during the summer might not cut it this time of year. You may find your skin might require more moisture during cooler months.

And, how do you know this? If your skin appears unusually dry and tight after using your cleanser, what you’re using may be too harsh for your skin. It might actually be stripping away the natural (good) oils it needs to stay plump and hydrated.

And your skincare products aren’t the only thing you should consider changing if you find your skin dry.

It may also be time to change your foundation, especially if you normally wear an oil control foundation. Dry skin loving options like KmS Mineral Perfecting BB Cream, or Select Botanical Anti-Aging Foundation were created specifically for dry skin and contain ingredients that prevent moisture loss.

How do you change your skincare routine this time of year?

Brighter Eyes in Seconds

The holidays are just around the corner, and it truly is the busiest times of year for women with all the shopping, school concerts, and yes, even that dreaded office party.

It’s at this time we want to feel and look our very best, praying our concealer holds up, because now we’re socializing more often, and it never fails; someone, somewhere is taking a picture, right?

With a ton of products out there, how do you know which one to choose?

What Are You Hiding?

Before this question can be answered, ask yourself what it is you need to cover.

A Real Eye Opener

I’ve found when consulting, the biggest concern for most women is under-eye shadows. These stubborn circles can be the result of lack of sleep, allergies, medication side effects and even heredity. No matter what brings them on, there’s nothing more frustrating than trying to hide them.

Because if we’re able to cover them, most often it looks overdone bringing more attention to them. Thank goodness for concealers that magically give the appearance of brighter eyes in seconds, like KmS Mineral Essentials Rested Concealer.

This amazing multi-use product can be used as an eye shadow base, a highlighter and a concealer. Rested not only covers dark circles, it magically brightens the eyes so you look like you got your 8 hours, even if you didn’t!

Less is so much more

The biggest mistake many women make when covering under eye circles is using too much cover up, fearing the shadows might “bleed” right through. There’s nothing wrong with “layering” products as long as you begin with very little, and blend, blend, blend.

Here’s how I do it:

I wait 5 minutes after cleansing and moisturizing before applying powder concealer. This prevents it from caking and looking heavy.

I apply concealer by lightly pressing my ring finger over the entire area I want to cover, then blend at the edges. I follow with foundation. If I notice my dark circles showing through, I’ll apply one more layer, making sure to blend and wipe away any extra powder. Then, I’ll lightly go over the entire area with finishing powder on my blending sponge to make it look smooth and even.

Super Tip: On days when I’m super-tired and my eyes could really use a pick-me-up, I’ll swipe a little Glo Get It Luminizer underneath my eyes to make them look 2 cups of coffee awake.

Do you struggle with dark circles? What tips do you have to hide them?
