Confession. I love to shop! Ask my husband, or better yet, the UPS man. Both will tell you I drive them crazy with packages, especially with vacation just a month away.
If you’ve gone on a cruise before, you know all about “Formal Night”; the 2 evenings during the week when everyone dresses to the nines (well, at least most do). I love to dress up (what girl doesn’t?) Besides, it gives me an excuse to buy a new dress, and I’m going to take advantage of that even if it kills me.
Of course I couldn’t stop there. I had to buy shoes and a purse to match. Come on, I know you’ve been there too!
Everything was all well and good until I got the bill. Yikes! It seems I spent a small fortune. This wouldn’t be a big deal if I spent the dough on a casual outfit I could wear every day. But to spend that kind of money on something that if I’m lucky, will only be worn once seemed rather silly.
Then I got to thinking. Maybe it’s time to look at large purchases in a different light. Maybe we need to look at it closer by dividing the cost by how many days we plan on using what we bought. I know this sounds like some crazy math lesson, but, just humor me for a moment.
Take our newest kit collection, The Complete Essentials for example. It runs $149. That sounds like some serious cash, right?
But let’s take a closer look at all the items in this kit. It’s a combination of skincare and mineral makeup promoting healthy, clear skin; products we use every day. So, if we divide the total by 30 (the average days in a month), the kit costs just under 5 bucks a day; $5 a day to banish bad skin forever. If you have problem skin, would it be worth it to you?
Now that we’ve looked at shopping from this perspective, you’re probably wondering if I decided to return that outfit? Hell no. But, I think now I’ll find a couple of other occasions to wear it.
