Simple Vacation Makeup

vacation makeup

I love the summertime. With snow on the ground now, I know it will eventually get here.

My hubby and I live in a quiet, small town north of the city. It’s what you could call the “sticks”. We enjoy peaceful living most of the year, but come mid-May, the once empty lake homes become full, and the only traffic jam around here can be found on the lake.

It’s one of the reasons I choose to vacation in the winter or early spring.

Vacation is vacation, no matter when you choose to do it, right? It’s the time of year to reflect, relax, and recharge, and when you realize less really is more.

Makeup is the last thing I want to think about during vacation, and while I do wear it, I prefer to keep it super-simple, because wearing a full face of makeup is a lot of work, and work is something I promised to leave at the office.

And as I prepare for this year’s getaway in a couple of weeks, I’m making a list of what I really NEED right now, and thought I’d share it with you need a little help in what to pack.

Simple Vacation Makeup. What Do Your Really Need?

When I think about which of my hundreds of products to pack, (it’s not really 100, but it could be pretty close), I ask myself what I really need, and then throw in a little extra for a special occasion.

This year, here’s what’s in my holiday makeup bag:

  • BB Cream  – This product is a must for me because it accomplishes 2 things; It evens out my ruddy skintone, and protects my skin with spf, saving me from having to apply a separate sunscreen.
  • Bronzer in Tahitian Bronze – I try to avoid the sun as much as possible, but a little bit of color on the cheeks, forehead and chin makes a great looking (and safe) tan.
  • Blush in Cozy – Sometimes I like a little pop of color with my bronzer. I love this shade because it is a bronzy mauve, and I can wear it as shadow too!
  • Eye Shadow – If I’m going out to dinner and want a little “pop” to my eyes, I bring a neutral shade with a bit of shimmer. My latest obsession is Romance.
  • Mascara – Because my bronzer and BB Cream can make my lashes look like they’ve completely disappeared, 1 coat brings my eyes back to life.
  • Lip Balm – Dry, cracked lips are no vacation. Plus, a great lip balm takes 10 years off your age? Yes, really.

5 Reasons Why Your Foundation Doesn’t Cover

mineralmakeup

There’s nothing more frustrating than a foundation that doesn’t give good coverage but, before you assume the foundation itself is to blame, consider the top 5 reasons why your foundation doesn’t cover as well as you expect.

Reason #1- You’re Using the Wrong Shade or Undertone

You’re probably wondering what using the wrong shade have to do with getting great foundation coverage? How about EVERYTHING!

Because when we wear a shade or undertone that’s all wrong for us, any discoloration like brown spots or redness we try to cover can end up bleeding through our foundation much darker than it would otherwise. So how can you be sure if the shade or undertone you’re wearing fits? Click here to find out now.

Reason #2- You’re Expecting Too Much From a Bargain Brand

I’m all for saving money, and seriously, these days, who isn’t? But, while you might save money by using a bargain brand of foundation, you’ll most likely be sacrificing coverage, because most of these products have very little pigment, and great coverage requires quite a bit of pigment. Bottom line here is when it comes to foundation, you almost always get what you pay for.

Reason #3- You’re Being Unrealistic

There’s nothing wrong with wanting flawless looking coverage in a makeup. But thinking your makeup finish will look runway perfect or magazine flawless is completely unrealistic. It’s actually impossible really, that is without filters and a little photoshop.

I found it refreshing a few years ago when A Celebrity Makeup Artist friend of mine, Stephen Dimmick told me that while he could make someone look next to flawless (outside of a cover shoot), he doesn’t do it because perfection lacks the look of personal character, meaning every mole, every birthmark, every skin tone tells a story. And it’s these differences that make us who we truly are.

Reason #4- You’re Not Using the Right Tools

Great coverage has a lot to do with the tools you use to apply it. Tools can be a combination of fingers, sponges and brushes. Imagine what a painting would look like if the painter didn’t use tools to perfect his work. The finished product would look flat, lack character and texture, and the same goes for flawless looking coverage.

Reason #5- You’re not Using the Right Technique

You can have the perfect foundation and the perfect tools, but both are useless without the “know how” or technique needed to get great coverage. And the surprising thing is, although it sounds involved, it’s really not Rocket Science. The right technique is as simple as applying your foundation one layer at a time, incorporating a little concealer where needed, and taking the time to blend your makeup. Believe it or not, bad coverage most often happens because we’re in too much of a rush.

Slow down, girl!

Is Your Makeup Drying Your Skin?

kms affiliate program

So, you’ve been successfully wearing mineral makeup for years, but now you’ve hit 40, and it’s almost as if you’ve suddenly “outgrown” it. And lately your skin not only feels drier, it looks drier, and you faithfully use moisturizer.

So what gives?

As we age, our skin gradually loses moisture, so in order to keep it looking hydrated and younger, we have to do whatever we can to lock that moisture in.

Sometimes that means switching out our skincare products for a formula that better meets the needs of dry and aging skin.

But changing those products may not be enough. We need to take another look at the makeup we use.

Loose mineral makeup powders are great for normal, combination and oily skin, but it can make dry skin even drier unless you’re lucky enough to find a formula that was made for dry skin like KmS Mineral Essentials anti-aging Select Botanical makeup.

Select Botanical Foundation is a luxurious blend of pure mineral makeup, infused with 7 soothing botanicals. Our incredible formula hydrates and nourishes the skin with a combination of Green Tea, Rose Hip, and other natural botanical extracts that work together to create a moisture barrier or “lock”. Most importantly, Select jumpstarts Collagen production, which improves the appearance of tired, aging skin.

There are of course skin care “experts” that argue whether or not botanicals in makeup are as effective as they are in skin care.

Our customers seem to think so. And maybe it’s something you need to see for yourself.

I want to know. What do you think about botanicals and skincare? Truth or hype? Share your thoughts below.

An Unexpected Remedy for Problem Skin (It’s Not What You Think)

KmS Mineral Essentials Complete Cover FoundationHave you ever noticed we live in a world of “I have to have it now”?

Think about it. We get instant gratification with fast food, speedy internet, and the latest? And now, we no longer have to go to the doctor’s office when we’re sick. We can now “see” them in the comfort of our jammies at home!

We’ve become a very impatient society, and yes, myself included!

Don’t think so? Head to Hawaii and try going from point A to B in a hurry. The only road rage you’ll find on the island is when the rest of the world vacations there. The locals are never in a hurry. They know their destination will always be there no matter what time they arrive.

So what do Hawaii locals have to do with a remedy for problem skin? Everything!

Let me explain.

When consulting with our future customers, I ask them if they have ever worn mineral makeup before. Most often, those that have worn mineral makeup stopped using it because they thought it made them look too “powdery”, they were unhappy with the coverage, or the makeup didn’t last through the day like they expected.

I began noticing one thing in common with every reason. They quit using the makeup right of the bat when it didn’t give them the perfect, flawless looking finish they were expecting. They wanted instant results!

And why wouldn’t they expect a quick fix when they’ve been conditioned like the rest of us?

But realistically, there’s a price to pay to reach any worthy goal in life. If you’re serious about meeting that goal, you must be truly committed to doing whatever it takes to get there.

So the unexpected remedy for problem skin? It’s commitment.

And commitment is that much easier when you get support from others along the way!

That’s what I love about what we do at KmS Mineral Essentials.

We don’t just present our makeup to our customers and send them on their way! We give them tools to help them get the most out of their products from step-by-step tutorials, to free consults for life. Because, what good is a great product if you don’t know how to use it? Are you ready to get committed? Tell me how we can help below!
