Makeup Mistakes That Make You Look Old

I’ve noticed the way I wear my makeup has changed over the years. When I first started wearing it, I wanted to look older, and now that I’m older, I’m trying to look a little bit younger.

You too?

But, here’s the problem. In an effort to look younger, many of us over 40 make makeup mistakes that make us look older. I wonder, are you making some of them?

Mistake #1- Using black liner on your lower lashes

I must admit, I’m guilty here. I think I’ve used black eyeliner because I thought it was what I was supposed to do. But what I didn’t realize is our eyes can easily give away our age, and using black eyeliner not only focuses attention on our aging skin, it also looks too harsh.

How to fix it: We need to create a softer focus to our aging eyes. We can do this beautifully by using white eyeliner on the lower water line (just above the last line.) White liner creates a softer look and makes the eyes appear more open.

Mistake #2- Using a traditional finishing powder

Typical finishing powders contain talc, which dries out the skin, and dry skin equals older looking skin.

How to fix it: Use a mineral finishing powder instead. It covers shine beautifully without over-drying the skin.

Mistake #3- Skipping a light reflective product

A matte finish is best for aging skin, but it makes it appear dry.

How to fix it: Using light reflective products like a luminizer or highlighter brings back the look of healthy, fresh, supple skin you had in your younger years.

Mistake #4- Skipping a Lip Liner

Lipstick worn without liner will eventually bleed over the natural lip line, settling into fine lines around the mouth. Enough said!

How to fix it: Lining your lips creates a barrier and prevents lip color from spilling over.

Mistake #5- Skipping a Moisturizer

You would think this would be a no-brainer, right? But, in our everyday hurriedness, it can be easily missed.

How to fix it: Because our skin loses its ability to retain moisture as we age, it’s more important than ever to replenish the moisture our skin has lost.

Can you relate to any of these mistakes? I’d love to hear your secret to looking younger! Leave a comment below and let me know!
