When KmS Mineral Essentials opened it’s doors nearly 10 years ago, I had just turned 40, and was completely in love with loose mineral makeup.

But, I must admit, I expected there would come a day (years down the road of course) when the needs of my skin would change and I would have to find a formula more suitable for aging skin.

Where did that thought come from? I found it (maybe you have too) in just about every magazine or blog article. I read that powder (yes, even mineral powder) would make my skin look and feel drier as I got older. Because I like to be prepared, I wanted to be ready for that day.

But that day never came.

They were right about one thing. My skin did change. It got much drier than it used to be, and faint, fine lines seemed to slowly appear. I knew I had to make a change, but it had nothing to do with my makeup.

I simply changed my cleanser and moisturizer type to meet the needs of my now aging skin.

Because the secret to wearing loose mineral makeup successfully is all about creating the perfect moisture balance to your skin before applying it. And once that balance is created, you should be able to wear whatever formula suits you.

So, while I use a bb cream and cream foundation from time to time, my goto foundation is still loose mineral powder.

Here’s why:

  • I get better coverage with a smaller amount of product
  • It takes less time to apply than other foundations
  • my makeup stays put all day, even in humid weather
  • people still think I’m 10 years younger than I really am

What’s been your experience with foundation formulas? Which do you prefer, and why? Let’s get the discussion started below.
