5 Reasons Why You’re STILL Breaking Out

skinconcernA breakout is completely frustrating, but, what’s worse, is not being able to figure out why you broke out in the first place.

You’re faithful with a regular skincare program, you eat the right foods, you limit your stress, and yet, it continues to show up like a bad boyfriend.

Reality is, there are a number of reasons why your skin is acting out like a 2 year old. Today, we’re going to talk about the top 5 reasons why you’re still breaking out.

You’re not doing it right

It doesn’t matter how much money you spend or how faithful you are to a skincare routine, it means absolutely nothing if you don’t use it the right way.

I get it. You’re in a rush.

Yes, I do it too. sometimes we speed up the routine by quickly cleansing, then splashing cold water over our face once, and we’re done, right?

Here’s why this is a problem. When we wash our face, the residue carrying oil and bacteria runs down our chin and onto our neck. When we splash just our face, we’re not completely rinsing. We allow it to sit there, only to find we start breaking out around the jawline and neck.

The Fix

Splash twice; once on your face and the other on your chin and neck. Will it mess up your bathroom sink? Probably, but, better that than a mess on your face, right?

You’re using the same washcloth and towel

I know. I catch myself doing this too.

Sometimes it’s easier to grab the washcloth or towel closest to us, but, it usually ends up being the same one we used yesterday, and even worse, 10 people may have been using it after using the bathroom. Enough said? ? Here’s what to keep in mind. Bacteria loves to live in a used towel because it gets stuck in the fibers.

The Fix

Instead of keeping one washcloth and one hand towel in your powder room, keep 2. Each time you use one of them, replace it. This way, you no longer have an excuse. 🙂

You’re using the wrong stuff

Here’s what I mean by this: If you’re using a cleanser for dry skin and yours is oily, you might as well be using motor oil. Sounds a little extreme I know, but think about it. Different skin types have different needs and those needs require the right products for the right skin type.

The Fix

First, make sure you know your skin type, (keep in mind it may change a couple of times a years during a change of season.) then make sure you are using the right products for that skin type.

You can’t remember the last time you washed your brushes

Once, again, I’m a serial offender. It’s so much easier to use a makeup brush in the basket right next to me instead of grabbing my clean extra set of brushes. But, just like fibers in a towel, bristles easily harbor bacteria, and each time you use a dirty brush, you’re putting it back on your face.

The Fix

Have 2 sets of brushes so you can swap one for the other when  you clean them. That 2nd set doesn’t have to be expensive. I use the same small set I pack when traveling.

You’re using the same makeup sponge

Makeup sponges are a great tool, but just like brushes, they suck up bacteria.

The Fix

If you use a blending sponge, be sure to keep it clean every time you use it, and make sure you replace it every couple of months. The easiest fix is to buy a package of disposable sponges so you can easily throw them out each time you use them.

And, it’s possible to not know what caused your breakout. But, by following the tips above, you can be sure it most likely wasn’t you!

The Biggest Mistake You Keep on Making

Beauty mistakes. We all make them, and sometimes we’re multiple offenders (I know I am). Why?

As human beings, we’re creatures of habit. We can’t stop ourselves, really. But some habits are much better broken.

Here’s a good example.

You wake up one morning, head to the mirror and find a huge breakout staring back at you! What’s the first thing you want to do? Cover it up!

Of course it’s best to leave it alone, but when you absolutely have to be somewhere, you want to keep it under wraps. So, here’s the problem. Breakouts don’t usually cover well if at all. But we try, don’t we? By putting on layer after layer of concealer, and now it not only looks worse, we just created another problem.

Our skin needs to breathe just like we do. When we “cover up” this much, we make that impossible, and just like a band-aid without an anti-biotic, it might be covered, but it won’t heal as quickly. Plus, most makeup out there is made of a lot of irritating ingredients which could become more of a problem for your already irritated skin.

One of the things I love about KmS Mineral Essentials loose mineral makeup is that it doesn’t just cover, our skin loving formula works to soothe and heal, so you not only look good, you’re doing something great for your skin too!

So the next time a breakout comes to visit and you just have to cover it, really think about what you’re going to cover it with. Sometimes it’s best to do nothing at all than to risk making a breakout much worse than it was when you first discovered it.

Have you made this mistake? What do you do when you notice a breakout? Do you leave it alone, or do you just have to cover it? Tell me all about it below!

Does a “Miracle Product” Even Exist?

infomercial1

So, the other night I just couldn’t get to sleep. I really didn’t have the energy to get out of bed, so I found myself channel surfing. I must have come across over a dozen infomercials selling everything from juice machines to diet pills.

But, with all the different products being offered, I noticed one thing in common. The spokesperson hosting these “shows” would refer to what they were selling as a “miracle” product.

Now, I have to be honest here. I’ve caved a few times over the years and actually bought a few of these items hoping it would do for me what it seemed to be doing for “thousands” of others. What’s funny is, with the exception of one, (the George Foreman Grill) I ended up returning them. They definitely weren’t the “miracle” I was looking for.

I got to thinking, Does a miracle product even exist?

I don’t know, but, our customers with Acne seem to think so!

When our Flawless Mineral Foundation was introduced nearly 8 years ago, we knew we had a winner! Zinc Oxide, one of the main ingredients of our foundation has proven skin healing capabilities, and our customers with problem skin noticed a visible difference within days of use. Then we got to thinking, wouldn’t it be amazing if this healing could take place at night as well so our customers could wake up to clearer looking skin? Our competitor thought they had that issue licked by telling their customers  they could “sleep” in their makeup, but, since it’s never a good idea to do that we came up with the next best thing.

KmS Mineral Essentials Intensive Night Treatment for Acne combines Zinc Oxide with White Willow Bark Extract, which together draw toxins from the skin to reduce redness and inflammation that accompanies Acne and Rosacea. 8 out of 10 customers have noticed a visible difference in as little as 2 days. The best part? It applies quickly and easily!

After cleansing your skin at night, you brush on a thin layer of Night Treatment over your blemishes, head off to dreamland, and wake up to amazing looking skin! Intensive Night Treatment works great on your back too! But, don’t take my word for it. This is one product you have to try for yourself, so, request a sample today!
