The Best Way to Manage Rosacea

Rosacea is a common skin condition that is very much misunderstood.

Over 16 million Americans suffer from Rosacea. It’s red-faced, hot acne like effects can cause significant psychological, social and occupational problems if not properly treated. In fact, a recent study showed more than 76% of patients with Rosacea said this problem skin condition lowered their self-confidence and self-esteem, while 41 percent reported the condition made them avoid social situations.

Although Rosacea can’t be cured, it can be managed through medical treatments. Great news, right?

The problem is, these treatments only solve half the problem because the skin can still look ravaged. And forget about covering it up with just any makeup. The stubborn redness eventually bleeds through.

And women with Rosacea need more than a makeup that just covers, they need one that also cools and calms the skin.

4 Reasons Why Mineral Makeup Dries Out Your Skin

You’ve probably heard others tell you mineral makeup makes your skin super-dry, but you probably didn’t expect me to say they’re right!

While it’s true mineral makeup can dry out your skin, the good news is it doesn’t have to! Today, we’re going to tackle 4 reasons why your  mineral makeup is drying out your skin.

Your Moisture Balance is Way Off

Because mineral makeup is applied dry, it is super important to make sure you create the right moisture balance to your skin before you apply it, or the makeup will soak up all the moisture in the skin leaving it looking dry, flaky and dull. So how do you create the right moisture balance for your skin? That leads me to the next reason mineral makeup dries out your skin.

You’re Not Making Way For New Skin

You’ve probably heard  your skin makes new skin cells every 3 days. What you might not know is you need to help to reveal that skin by exfoliating which will remove 1 to 1/2 layers of dead skin.

Ever notice your skin looking a little flaky? That’s its way of telling you it’s time to get the scrub out. We recommend every 3 days; 2 if you’re over 40.

Why is it so important to get rid of that dead skin? Because a moisturizer cannot penetrate through dead skin. This means if you skip using a facial scrub, you’re throwing money away on moisturizer, and no one wants to do that!

Use the Right Moisturizer (And Never Skip It)

It’s not as important to use a moisturizer as it is to use the right one for your skin type. It’s because moisturizers are created differently to meet the needs of each skin type. And, do you really know what your skin type is? Be careful. This is where so many women go wrong!

It’s common for it to change many times during your lifetime. Your type could change as you age, if you move somewhere where the temperature changes drastically or even as the result from a medication you’re taking.

You’re Using the Wrong Kind of Foundation

If dry skin is a daily concern for you, you’ll want to look for a mineral foundation made for it. This way your makeup will be working with your moisturizer and not against it.

Are You In Problem Skin Denial?

wrong makeupYou hear the word “Wellness” a lot these days. We’re a lot more health conscious. We do our best to eat right, and stay active.

Wellness is all about taking care of ourselves completely;  mind, body and soul, and this includes our problem skin.

So why are we still wearing makeup everyone else is wearing?

We might be in problem skin denial, and here’s why:

We Think We’re Already Wearing The Right Stuff

We’ve watched the infomercials, we read the claims and saw the before and after photos. We’re actually wearing the makeup that’s supposed to be good for our problem skin, but it just isn’t working. Why do we keep using it? Because we’re convinced if it doesn’t work, nothing will!

What’s really happening: Everyone’s skin is very different, problem skin or not. Just because a brand works well for someone, doesn’t mean it will work for another. It’s possible there could be an ingredient your skin is super-sensitive to. There’s something else out there that will work for you. You don’t have to settle for less than great skin.

We’re Afraid We’ll Spend More Money On “Problem Skin” Makeup

We’re afraid our problem skin will “nickel and dime” us for the rest of our lives, and think that special makeup for problem skin will cost us a lot more.

What’s really happening: When you use the wrong type of makeup for your skin, you’ll spend more money, but it won’t be spent the way you think.

You’ll either spend your cash on pricey concealers that cover up your acne (that won’t make it any better), or you’ll spend it at the doctor/and or pharmacy when that makeup ends up causing a breakout or rash.

The Bottom Line

Problem skin doesn’t have to be a problem at all, in fact it can be easily managed with a little TLC, and a commitment to using gentle makeup and skincare products that won’t irritate your skin.

Are you guilty of wearing makeup that wasn’t made for your Acne or problem skin? What stopped you from trying gentler products made to manage problem skin? Share your story in the comments below.

3 Keys to A Flawless Foundation Finish!

Getting a flawless foundation finish doesn’t have to be rocket science, but, there are 3 Keys to getting there, and in today’s post, I’m going to share them with you!

Key #1- You Need to Be Patient

Nothing good ever comes from rushing, and it’s especially true when it comes to a flawless looking foundation finish. When putting on your makeup on the fly, it’s easy to miss spots, use too much, or even worse, not enough.

Taking an extra minute to make sure you don’t miss a thing doesn’t take as long as you think.

Key #2- You Need the Right Foundation

A flawless finish is only as good as the foundation you use. Your best option is a water-resistant foundation, because it handles heat and humidity like a boss, so it stays put, even during your workout! Plus, the water resistance is what makes this foundation last all day and then some, never fading into the skin.

So, what does that have to do with getting a flawless finish? A foundation made to last has more pigment, and pigment is what makes an even finish possible in the first place.

Key #3- You Need to Use the Right Brush

Any makeup artist will tell you the key to a flawless finish is all about the tools you use to apply your makeup.

Great coverage begins with the right application brush. Different foundation brushes give different coverage, so you need to be sure the one you’re using matches the type of coverage you want.

For example, when it comes to mineral makeup, a Kabuki brush is best for light coverage, because the full, wide bristles hold the least amount of foundation at once. The opposite is true for full coverage. Brushes with close set bristles hold the most product at a time, making it possible to apply more foundation at the same time, in one place.
